Udbhav-2025 begins with grandeur at KL University

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram inaugurated the Udbhav-2025 cultural festival at KL University on Tuesday, calling on tribal students to excel not only in academics but also in culture and tradition. Speaking as the chief guest on the opening day, he said EMRS (Eklavya Model Residential Schools) students have the potential to shine in every field.

Oram emphasized the importance of learning Hindi, English and regional languages. Recalling that the Tribal Affairs Ministry was named during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure, he expressed happiness that he had also inaugurated tribal cultural festivals five years ago.

He announced that EMRS schools across the country would be developed on par with Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Sainik Schools. Explaining the theme, he said “Udbhav means bringing out what lies within, and this festival aims exactly at that.”

The Union Minister appreciated the Andhra Pradesh government, Tribal Welfare Minister Gummidi Sandhya Rani and Chief Secretary M. Mallikarjun Naik for organizing the festival meticulously. He also launched the 6th National EMRS Cultural, Literary and Arts Festival on this occasion. Students welcomed him with traditional tribal dances, after which he toured an exhibition showcasing tribal heritage and visited the stall featuring internationally known Araku coffee.

Tribal Welfare Minister Sandhya Rani said Udbhav-2025 is not just a festival but “a platform that brings out creativity, talent and confidence in children.” She said it enables students from diverse backgrounds to learn new cultures and traditions. A total of 1,647 students from 405 EMRS schools have come to participate, including 110 from Andhra Pradesh.

She requested the Union Minister to allocate more funds for tribal education and hostel facilities in AP, and sought priority for road connectivity in remote tribal regions.

Tribal Welfare Chief Secretary M. Mallikarjun Naik said Andhra Pradesh is proud to host the festival, especially as the state is home to nearly eight lakh tribal people. He noted that cultural events like Udbhav help celebrate India’s diversity. Across the country, 740 EMRS schools are functional, and the Centre is currently constructing 440 school buildings, he added.

The organisers said arrangements for food and accommodation were fully in place for the three-day event. Competitions will be held across multiple venues at KL University, including two theatres, three seminar halls, ten classrooms and an open-air auditorium.

Several dignitaries participated in the program, including Leather Industries Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (LIDCAP) Chairman Pilli Manikyarao, Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Shailaja, Waqf Board Chairman Sheikh Hasan Basha, TDP ST Cell President Daru Naik, National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) Commissioner Ajit Kumar Srivatsava, AP Tribal Welfare Director Sada Bhargavi, Gurukulam Secretary M. Gauthami, NESTS Joint Commissioner Bipin Chandra Raturi, KL University Dean Prof. GPS Varma and others.
