Udayan Mane shines in IGPL golf with flawless round and strong lead
India’s Udayan Mane delivered a dazzling display of power and precision, firing a flawless eight under 64 , highlighted by a hole in one , to seize a commanding six shot lead after the second round of the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) Invitational South Africa at Royal Johannesburg’s West Course.
Mane, who opened the tournament with a bogey free seven under 65 , continued his remarkable touch on day two and moved to 15 under par , standing well clear of the field as the only player in double digits under par.
His round began in spectacular fashion with an eagle on the par five first hole , followed quickly by a hole in one on the par three fifth . He turned in five under and maintained full control on the back nine with three more birdies , closing out a near perfect card that underlined his dominant form. The Olympian, fresh from a strong third place finish in Mauritius , appears to be reaping the rewards of an improved short game alongside his natural long hitting ability.
Behind him, the chase pack sits at tied second, featuring Manav Shah , Pukhraj Singh Gill , and Gaganjeet Bhullar , all clustered in strong positions but still well adrift of the leader.
Bhullar, a three time IGPL winner , remained in contention after following his opening 67 with a steady 68. Local hope Musiwalo Nethunzwi held sole fifth place, while rookie professional Danish Verma and South Africa’s Alessio Graziani shared sixth.
The second day also produced moments of brilliance elsewhere, with Ranjit Singh recording a hole in one on the par three 16th. However, he slipped back to tied 17th after a mixed round. Last week’s winner Sachin Baisoya endured a difficult day but remains within striking distance of a top ten finish going into the final round.
In the team competition, Green Fuels Hyderabad set the pace with a strong combined effort from Shah, Verma, Graziani and Soni. Their consistent scoring placed them at 18 under , giving them a 10 shot cushion over Atri Mumbai, who count Mane among their ranks. Honer Gurugram sit third, led by Gill.
With one round remaining, Mane stands firmly in control, but a field packed with experienced contenders still has one final chance to respond.
