Typhoon Bualoi hits Central Vietnam: One dead, four Missing, nearly 30,000 evacuated

Typhoon Bualoi has left one person dead, four missing, and thousands of people were forced to evacuate across central Vietnam, according to official reports.

The Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention confirmed that over 28,000 residents were evacuated from localities spanning Ninh Binh to Quang Ngai provinces. The largest evacuations occurred in Ha Tinh (over 16,500 people), Thanh Hoa (nearly 7,000), and Quang Tri (over 2,100).

Initial damage reports indicate that a woman in Hue was swept away by floodwaters late Saturday night, and her body was recovered on Sunday. Four people remain missing, three in Quang Tri and one in Da Nang. Additionally, 86 houses were damaged or had their roofs blown off.

The typhoon disrupted air travel, with 42 flights canceled and 51 delayed at Da Nang, Phu Bai, Dong Hoi, and Tho Xuan airports. Operations are expected to resume from Monday.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the eye of Typhoon Bualoi was located off the coast between Quang Tri and Nghe An provinces on Sunday afternoon. It is expected to make landfall between northern Quang Tri and Nghe An, bringing strong winds of 89–133 kph (levels 10–12) and gusts up to 150 kph. The strongest winds are forecast from late Sunday night through Monday morning, affecting coastal areas from northern Quang Tri to Thanh Hoa.

Residents are being urged to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and strictly follow evacuation orders as the storm continues to move inland.
