Two Students Dead, Five Injured After Private Bus Crashes on Punjab Highway

Two college students from Jammu were killed and five others injured after a private bus overturned on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway in Punjab on Friday, police said.

The deceased, both aged around 23, were identified as students studying at a college in Punjab. According to police, nearly 10 students were among the passengers travelling in the bus at the time of the accident.

Station House Officer Rajwant Kaur said five passengers sustained injuries in the mishap, including three who suffered head injuries. The injured were rushed to a hospital in Gurdaspur for treatment. Their condition is stated to be stable, while the remaining students travelling in the bus escaped with minor injuries or were unharmed.

Police said the bus suddenly overturned on the highway, triggering panic among passengers and motorists nearby. Locals and emergency responders helped rescue those trapped inside the vehicle before the injured were shifted to hospital.

The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established. However, police suspect that factors such as overspeeding, driver negligence, or loss of control may have contributed to the crash. Authorities have launched an investigation and are examining the condition of the vehicle as well as statements from witnesses and passengers.
