Two people were killed and five others were injured after gunfire erupted near the Salsa on St. Clair Festival in Toronto on Saturday evening, sending crowds fleeing and triggering a major police response.

The shooting took place near the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue , where thousands had gathered for the annual celebration of Latin American culture. Police initially warned residents of an active shooter situation but later confirmed the area had been secured.

Investigators said the violence does not appear to have been a random attack . Preliminary findings suggest there was an exchange of gunfire between individuals who were targeting one another .
