Two killed after car catches fire in collision with truck in Maharashtra’s Beed District
Two persons were killed after a car caught fire following a collision with a tipper truck in Beed district on Friday, police said.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near Kapsi village on the Beed Ahilyanagar state highway. According to preliminary information, the victims, a man and a woman believed to be mother and son from Ambajogai tehsil were travelling towards Beed when a speeding truck carrying stone grit, heading in the opposite direction, rammed into their vehicle.
The impact triggered an immediate fire in the car’s engine compartment, quickly engulfing the vehicle. Eyewitnesses indicated that the occupants were unable to escape, possibly due to the mangled condition of the car or a failure of its locking system.
Local residents rushed to the spot in an attempt to rescue the victims, but the flames spread rapidly, leaving no opportunity for intervention. Both occupants died on the spot.
The accident caused a brief traffic disruption on the busy highway as bystanders gathered. Police said the truck driver fled the scene following the collision and efforts are underway to trace him.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and the subsequent fire.
