Two Killed, 16 Injured in APSRTC Bus-Lorry Crash Near Kadapa
A devastating road accident in YSR Kadapa district claimed two lives and left at least 16 passengers injured after an APSRTC Ultra Deluxe bus collided head-on with a lorry in the early hours of Monday.
The accident occurred near Udumvaripalli village in Pullampeta mandal , along the busy Kadapa-Tirupati route. According to police, the bus was travelling towards Kadapa when it crashed into an oncoming loaded lorry shortly after 1 a.m.
The force of the impact caused extensive damage to the right side of the bus, crushing several seats and trapping passengers. Officials said the worst-hit section of the vehicle bore the brunt of the collision, resulting in multiple serious injuries and fatalities. The bus was carrying 27 passengers at the time of the accident.
Among those killed were a two-year-old child and a 16-year-old student , whose deaths have cast a shadow over the tragedy. Several injured passengers suffered fractures and other serious injuries and were rushed to the Rajampet Government Hospital and nearby medical facilities for emergency treatment. A few critically injured victims were later shifted to higher medical centres for specialised care. The lorry driver was also injured in the crash.
Preliminary findings suggest that the collision took place on a highway stretch frequently used by heavy commercial vehicles during night hours. Investigators are examining the circumstances leading to the accident, including possible driver error and other contributing factors. A detailed inquiry has been initiated.
Expressing grief over the incident, Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and directed officials to ensure the best possible treatment for the injured. He instructed authorities to closely monitor the condition of victims and shift those requiring advanced care without delay.
The Minister also sought a comprehensive report on the accident, including details of the vehicles involved, road conditions and existing safety measures. He emphasised the need to strengthen road safety protocols and take preventive steps to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
As rescue and medical teams responded swiftly to the emergency, the accident once again highlighted concerns over nighttime highway travel and the risks posed by collisions involving heavy vehicles. Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation into one of the district's most serious road accidents in recent months.
