Two JJMP commanders with ₹5 lakh bounty surrender in Jharkhand’s latehar

In a significant success for the state’s anti-insurgency drive, two senior members of the Jharkhand JanMukti Parishad (JJMP) including a sub-zonal commander carrying a ₹5 lakh bounty surrendered before the police in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Wednesday.

The police identified the surrendering rebels as sub-zonal commander Brajesh Yadav alias Rakesh Ji of Gumla district and area commander Awdhesh Lohra alias Rohit Lohra of Latehar district.

Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav said, “Two active Maoists of the JJMP have surrendered today. There are 10 pending cases against Brajesh Yadav, who was carrying a reward of ₹5 lakh. Similarly, five cases are pending against Awdhesh Lohra.”

Both the commanders laid down arms under the state government’s ‘Nai Disha’ rehabilitation policy, which aims to bring left-wing extremists back into the mainstream. “All the benefits under this policy are being extended to their families,” the SP added.

Inspector General of Police (Palamu Range) Shailendra Kumar Sinha termed the surrender a major achievement for the Latehar police, attributing it to the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies and local communities.

The JJMP, an outlawed Maoist outfit operating mainly in Jharkhand’s forested regions, has seen a series of surrenders in recent months as the state intensifies its rehabilitation and anti-insurgency measures.
