
Two Indians Arrested With Brown Sugar In Nepal, One Injured In Police Action
Nepal Police have arrested two Indian nationals , including a 17-year-old minor , from Nepal’s Madhesh Province after recovering 92.3 grams of brown sugar , officials said on Sunday.
According to the Nepal Police’s Narcotic Drug Control Bureau , the arrested individuals have been identified as Ranjit Kumar Paswan (28) and a 17-year-old boy , both residents of Madhubani District .
Police said the duo was apprehended from the Lakadigoth area of Siraha District on Sunday evening during a targeted anti-narcotics operation. The seized substance, commonly referred to as brown sugar , is a street form of heroin , officials indicated.
According to the statement, the suspects allegedly attempted to flee towards the India-Nepal border when they were intercepted by the police team. During the attempt, they reportedly threw stones at security personnel , escalating the situation.
In response, police opened fire, during which Paswan sustained bullet injuries . A police officer was also injured in the leg during the confrontation. Both injured individuals were immediately taken to a provincial hospital in Siraha for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that both suspects are currently in custody while receiving medical care under police supervision. The injured officer is also undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Officials have launched a detailed investigation to determine possible cross-border drug trafficking links and the source of the narcotics. They also said they are examining whether the arrested individuals are part of a larger supply network operating along the porous India-Nepal border region .
Nepal Police said anti-narcotics operations will continue to be intensified in the region amid rising concerns over drug smuggling activities in southern districts .
