Two Indians among three arrested in Nepal with 3,300 drug ampules
Two Indian nationals were arrested along with a Nepali accomplice in Nepal’s Lumbini province on Tuesday for allegedly transporting narcotic drugs across the India–Nepal border, police said.
The arrests were made in Rupandehi district , a southern district that borders India and has often been under scrutiny for cross-border movement of contraband .
Police identified the Indian nationals as Arun Kumar (18) and Binaya Pandey (20) , both residents of Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh . A Nepali national, Bishal Yadav , was also detained in connection with the case.
According to police officials, the suspects were intercepted while travelling on a motorcycle registered in India , which they allegedly used to transport narcotics into Nepal.
During the search, officers recovered 3,300 ampules of Phenergan, Diazepam and Brufen from their possession. Authorities said the drugs, commonly used as sedatives and pain-relief medicines , are frequently misused as injectable narcotic substances because they can induce drowsiness and dizziness when consumed improperly.
Police believe the suspects had entered Nepal from across the border and were attempting to transport the medicines illegally when they were intercepted.
The three accused have been taken into custody, and the motorcycle and seized drugs have been confiscated.
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the source of the drugs and whether the accused are linked to a wider cross-border trafficking network operating in the region.
