Two Dead, Several Injured as Teen Clash Escalates into Shooting in North Carolina

A planned altercation among youths spiralled into a deadly mass shooting at a park in Winston-Salem on Monday morning, leaving two people dead and several others injured , authorities said.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. at Leinbach Park , located near Jefferson Middle School. According to officials, the violence erupted after two juveniles had prearranged a fight , which escalated when a firearm was discharged during the confrontation.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation confirmed that multiple individuals were shot , with two victims succumbing to their injuries . Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased.

Winston-Salem Police Assistant Chief Jason Swaim said investigators have identified numerous individuals connected to the incident , though their exact roles whether as suspects, victims, or witnesses remain under investigation. “A firearm was discharged during the fight, resulting in multiple victims being shot,” he stated.

Police moved swiftly to secure the area, while assuring the public that nearby schools were not under threat . Officials confirmed that students at Jefferson Middle School were safe , and parents were permitted to pick them up as a precaution.

The shooting took place in a residential neighbourhood northwest of downtown Winston-Salem , a city of about 250,000 residents , historically known as the home of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including how the firearm was obtained and who was responsible for firing it. No arrests have been announced so far.
