
Two Bangkok Passengers Held at Delhi Airport With Hydroponic Weed Worth Rs 34.93 Crore
Customs officials at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have seized suspected hydroponic weed valued at nearly Rs 34.93 crore from two passengers who arrived from Bangkok, officials said on Friday.
Hydroponic weed refers to cannabis cultivated without soil using water-based nutrient solutions and inert growing mediums such as coco coir or rockwool. The method is often associated with the production of high-potency cannabis.
According to customs authorities, the two passengers were intercepted after they crossed the green channel at the airport following profiling by officials. During X-ray screening of their baggage, officers noticed suspicious images, prompting a detailed examination.
“On examination of the baggage, thirty-one vacuum-sealed packets containing suspected hydroponic weed (ganja) were recovered,” an official statement said.
The recovered substance weighed 34,935 grams , including the packaging material, and its estimated market value was pegged at around Rs 34.935 crore . Officials said the seized substance prima facie appeared to be ganja/marijuana .
Both passengers were arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act , while the contraband and packaging materials were seized for further investigation.
Officials said further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended distribution network linked to the seized consignment.
