In a major anti-narcotics operation, police in East Singhbhum district arrested two individuals and seized 50 kilograms of ganja estimated to be worth ₹25 lakh , officials said on Monday.

The action followed specific intelligence inputs indicating that a consignment of cannabis was being transported through the Baharagora area in the Ghatsila sub-division, allegedly en route to neighbouring states. Acting swiftly, a special team was constituted under the supervision of the rural police.

A vehicle checking drive was launched at Kaliabinga Chowk, a key transit point. During the operation, police intercepted a suspicious car and conducted a thorough search in the presence of a magistrate. Officials recovered 25 packets of ganja concealed in the boot of the vehicle, collectively weighing 50 kg .

The occupants of the vehicle were immediately taken into custody. During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to their involvement and revealed that the contraband had been procured from Odisha and was intended for supply in Bihar.

Police have impounded the vehicle used in the transportation and initiated further investigation to identify other members of the network and trace the supply chain. Officials said the operation underscores ongoing efforts to curb inter-state drug trafficking and tighten vigilance along key smuggling routes.
