Twisha Sharma Death Case: Absconding Husband Ends Run After Withdrawing Bail Plea

The death of Twisha Sharma , a 33-year-old actor-model from Noida found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal earlier this month, has evolved into one of the country’s most closely watched investigations, drawing national attention over allegations of dowry harassment , possible influence in the probe and mounting legal twists.

In the latest development, Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh , who had been absconding since the FIR was registered, reached the Jabalpur district court on Friday evening to surrender, according to his lawyer. The move came barely an hour after he withdrew his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court .

His counsel said the bail application was withdrawn before the single bench of Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh, leaving surrender as the only option after a subordinate court had already rejected his anticipatory bail request last week.

Twisha was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, just months after marrying Samarth Singh. Her family accused Samarth and his mother, retired district judge Giribala Singh , of sustained dowry harassment and mental abuse that allegedly pushed her to death. The Singh family, however, has claimed Twisha struggled with drug addiction and mental health issues.

Police registered an FIR under Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh. Authorities had earlier announced a Rs 30,000 reward for information leading to Samarth’s arrest and also approached the court seeking revocation of his passport.

The case gained nationwide attention due to Giribala Singh’s position as a former judge and current chairperson of the Bhopal Consumer Court. Questions over possible influence and alleged procedural lapses intensified after she secured anticipatory bail.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has proposed transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation, while the High Court has ordered a second post-mortem after Twisha’s family raised concerns over discrepancies in the initial autopsy.

Police have also issued a third and final notice to Giribala Singh for recording her statement, warning that non-cooperation could lead to cancellation of her anticipatory bail.

With a surrender attempt, court-monitored developments and growing public scrutiny, the Twisha Sharma case has become a major national flashpoint over dowry deaths, legal accountability and the handling of sensitive investigations involving influential individuals.
