TVK’s Vijay claims DMK using 'Politics of hatred' ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu elections

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, accusing him of making “slanderous remarks” in the state Legislative Assembly and engaging in “politics of hatred.”

Speaking at a Special General Committee Meeting in Mahabalipuram, Vijay, who is also an actor-turned-politician, said that his party had chosen to remain silent for a long time in the face of adversity, but now it was time to speak out. “We have been living in indescribable pain for days, but we chose silence because it was our duty to stand by those affected. However, while we remained calm, political traps of hatred and baseless accusations were spun against us. We are now ready to confront these with the power of law and truth,” Vijay said, referring to the political environment in the state.

Vijay accused Chief Minister Stalin of hypocrisy, saying, “The Chief Minister, who claims not to engage in politics, made multiple slanderous comments about us in the Assembly. The same person who preaches magnanimity publicly has poured venom and malice in his speech. Does he think the people of Tamil Nadu cannot recognize this kind of politics?”

The actor-turned-politician also highlighted what he termed as unprecedented restrictions placed on his political campaign. “We were instructed to stay inside buses, prohibited from waving at people, and even stopped from standing on the roof of our buses; no other leader in India has faced such restrictions,” he added. These statements were a direct critique of the DMK government, which Vijay claims has been trying to suppress his party’s efforts to engage with the public.

Vijay also accused Stalin’s government of spreading false accusations against his party without honesty or integrity. He specifically criticized the legal challenges faced by the government, stating, “The DMK government spent crores of rupees to hire ‘learned’ lawyers who were unable to defend the government’s lies in the Supreme Court.” This statement ties into his broader criticism of the government's lack of transparency and accountability.

Focusing on the Karur incident, Vijay raised concerns over the Tamil Nadu government’s handling of the inquiry process. He questioned why a one-man inquiry commission was hurriedly appointed after the incident, only for government officials and police top brass to hold press conferences that, according to him, disrespected the commission itself. “Why did this happen? For what purpose?” Vijay asked, reiterating the Supreme Court’s criticism of the government, which warned that the police officials' statements to the media could undermine public confidence in the investigation.

The TVK leader accused Stalin of being “intoxicated by power,” claiming that the Chief Minister, in his pursuit of political advantage, had abandoned any sense of humanity, ethics, or dignity. “The Chief Minister has started playing a political game, while pretending to speak of morality and compassion,” Vijay said.

Reiterating his faith in TVK’s potential, Vijay declared, “The people of Tamil Nadu have completely lost faith in this government. If not, they will make the DMK leadership realize this deeply and forcefully in the 2026 elections. We will overcome all obstacles and continue to stand hand in hand with the people.” Vijay further expressed confidence that in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the contest would be between only two parties: TVK and DMK. “Victory will be 100% ours. We will make history,” he said, urging his supporters to remain optimistic and firm in their belief in TVK’s success.

Vijay’s remarks are expected to influence the 2026 elections, particularly by reinforcing his image as a challenger to the established political dynasties of the DMK and AIADMK. The focus on transparency, justice, and democratic rights will likely resonate with voters, especially in light of the accusations against the ruling government’s handling of legal and political matters.
