TVK has grown into a major party, only we can defeat DMK: Vijay
Actor-politician Vijay on Monday reiterated that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) , aims to be a significant force in Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the 2026 Assembly election , positioning it as an alternative to the ruling DMK . The party marked its anniversary with gatherings of supporters and cadres, and Vijay emphasised that the electoral contest would primarily be between TVK and DMK .
Highlighting TVK’s organisational efforts, he said the party is expanding at the grassroots level, with plans to appoint over 70,000 booth committee secretaries and strengthen local units across districts. Vijay stressed the importance of building a robust party structure and engaging directly with voters, particularly youth and first-time voters.
Vijay criticised the DMK government for policy failures and governance issues, saying the party had lost touch with the people. He vowed that TVK would focus on transparent governance, social welfare, and addressing public concerns , while also rejecting pre-poll alliances with major parties like the BJP and AIADMK , insisting TVK will contest on its own terms.
Rival parties responded cautiously. The AIADMK warned that a fragmented opposition could benefit the DMK, while the BJP indicated it would continue to focus on broader alliance strategies in the state. The DMK maintained its emphasis on governance and development achievements.
Voter sentiment on TVK’s potential impact remains mixed. While the party has attracted attention, particularly among urban and younger voters, established Dravidian parties continue to dominate rural and traditional strongholds. Analysts note that TVK’s challenge will be to convert its visibility and organisational growth into measurable electoral success.
The anniversary rally highlighted TVK’s growing ambition and its efforts to position itself as a recognised contender in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
