
TVK candidate Prakash booked for alleged sexual harassment
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate for the Poonamallee Assembly constituency , Prakash alias Kutty, has been booked in an alleged sexual harassment case , police said on Tuesday.
The complaint was lodged with the Tiruvallur district police by a woman, who is also a functionary of the Vijay-led party . According to the victim, the alleged incident occurred six months ago during the wedding of a party supporter. She stated that despite repeated attempts to contact Prakash, he did not respond to calls made by her or her husband.
Speaking to reporters after filing the complaint, the woman said, “I have come here to lodge a sexual harassment case. My husband and I tried to speak to him, but he did not answer our calls. We formally raised the issue with the party leadership and have stayed patient all this time.” She added, “We expected the party leadership to take action, but now they have announced him as the party candidate. How can we continue to be patient?”
The police confirmed that Prakash has been booked under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita , and the investigation is underway .
The accused candidate, Prakash, has denied the allegations , calling them politically motivated and filed at the instigation of rival party members. He expressed confidence that he would win the upcoming election and said he would face the matter legally .
So far, TVK chief Vijay has not made any public comment on the case.
The development has triggered fresh controversy ahead of the Poonamallee Assembly polls , putting the spotlight on the party’s candidate selection process .
