Turkman Gate Violence Case: Delhi Court Grants Bail to All 12 Accused

A Delhi court on Tuesday granted bail to all 12 individuals accused of stone-pelting during an anti-encroachment drive near Turkman Gate last month. Additional Sessions Judge Bhupinder Singh ordered their release on bail bonds of ₹50,000 each, while noting that a detailed order would be issued later.

Those granted bail include Mohammad Kaif, Mohammad Kashif, Mohammad Ubaidullah, Mohammad Imran, Mohammad Adnan, Sameer Hussain, Mohammad Naved, Mohammad Athar, Mohammad Areeb, Mohammad Aadil, Amir Hamza and Adnan. The matter has undergone multiple rounds of judicial scrutiny, including earlier directions from the Delhi High Court to reconsider bail in one of the cases.

The case stems from violence that erupted on the intervening night of January 6 and 7 during an anti-encroachment operation conducted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi near the Faiz-e-Elahi mosque . Police said rumours circulating on social media that the mosque was being demolished led to a large crowd gathering at the spot. According to the prosecution, around 150 to 200 people allegedly pelted stones and threw glass bottles at police and civic personnel, leaving six policemen , including the area’s Station House Officer, injured.

The granting of bail does not amount to an acquittal, and the case remains pending trial.
