A 14-year-old student opened fire inside Ayser Çalık Secondary School in Turkey’s Kahramanmaras province, killing nine people (eight students and one teacher) and injuring 13 others , in the country’s second school shooting in just two days .

Authorities said the attacker entered the school armed with five firearms and seven magazines , allegedly taken from his father, a retired police officer. He reportedly opened fire in two separate classrooms after first firing in the schoolyard , causing panic as students attempted to escape, including some who jumped from windows to save their lives .

Officials confirmed that six of the injured remain in critical condition , while emergency treatment continues across nearby hospitals. The gunman was found dead at the scene, with investigators still determining whether he died by suicide or was killed during a police response .

State media identified the shooter as Isa Aras Mersinli. His father has been detained for questioning , and weapons used in the attack are under forensic examination. Authorities have described the incident as a personal attack with no confirmed terror link , though investigations are ongoing.

Victims included eight students and one teacher , with reports indicating the teacher was among those who attempted to protect students during the attack. The school was immediately evacuated and surrounding areas secured by police and special operations units.

The massacre came just about 24 hours after another school shooting in the nearby Şanlıurfa province, where a former student injured 16 people before killing himself , further intensifying national alarm over school security.

Following the back-to-back attacks, Turkish authorities launched a nationwide investigation into gun access, school safety, and illegal weapons circulation , and imposed a strict broadcast ban on traumatic or graphic images , limiting media coverage to official statements.
