TTD Assures Uninterrupted Water Supply in Tirumala for 150 Days
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has adequate water reserves to meet the needs of devotees visiting the hill shrine for approximately 150 days, TTD Chairman BR Naidu said. He assured pilgrims that the temple administration was taking comprehensive measures to prevent water shortages and maintain an uninterrupted supply, even if rainfall is delayed.
Naidu said he reviewed the water storage situation by inspecting the dams supplying Tirumala on Thursday, accompanied by Additional Executive Officer CH Venkayya Chowdary, TTD board members and engineering officials. During the inspection, the team assessed the available reserves and reviewed the arrangements in place to meet the daily water requirements of the hill town, which receives a large number of pilgrims throughout the year.
The chairman directed officials to prepare alternative water supply plans to address any potential shortage arising from inadequate or delayed rainfall. He stressed the need for advance planning and effective resource management to ensure that devotees do not face inconvenience during their visit to the shrine.
Naidu also said he had recently discussed Tirumala’s water requirements with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that rainfall would improve the water situation and help prevent shortages, according to the TTD chairman.
Apart from managing existing reserves, the temple administration is focusing on strengthening its water supply infrastructure to meet future requirements. Naidu said efforts were underway to improve supplies through the Kalyani Dam and explore other alternative sources to ensure greater reliability during periods of insufficient rainfall.
The TTD is also developing a long-term water security strategy involving dam dredging, the construction of check dams, water conservation measures, leakage prevention and automation of the supply network. These initiatives are expected to improve water storage and distribution, reduce wastage and strengthen the system’s ability to meet rising demand.
With thousands of devotees visiting Tirumala daily, ensuring sufficient drinking water and maintaining essential services remain key priorities for the temple administration. Naidu reiterated that the TTD was committed to providing uninterrupted water supply to pilgrims while adopting sustainable measures to safeguard the hill shrine’s water resources for the future.
