Trump says board of peace will unveil $5 billion in Gaza pledges, Indonesia to send 8,000 troops

President Donald Trump on Sunday announced via his social media platform, Truth Social , that members of his newly formed board of peace have pledged more than USD 5 billion toward humanitarian aid and reconstruction in war-ravaged Gaza and will provide thousands of personnel for an international stabilization and policing force. The pledges are expected to be formally unveiled during the board’s inaugural meeting in Washington, D.C., on Thursday .

Trump, who serves as chairman of the board, described the initiative as “the most consequential international body in history ” and hailed the commitments as a first step toward resolving global crises, beginning with Gaza. He emphasized that the board aims to deliver rapid humanitarian support and long-term reconstruction. However, the administration has not disclosed which countries specifically pledged funds or how much each contributed , and the pledged $5 billion has not yet been transferred or deposited ; it remains a commitment of intent.

Indonesia has publicly pledged support, with its military confirming that up to 8,000 troops could be ready for deployment by June as part of a humanitarian and peacekeeping mission. The Indonesian forces would focus on medical assistance, civilian protection, and reconstruction , with no combat operations planned, and deployment would require consent from the Palestinian Authority . A smaller contingent may be deployed earlier, around April, to begin initial operations. These troop commitments are also pledges of readiness , with no personnel currently deployed.

Rebuilding Gaza after more than two years of conflict will be a massive task, with the UN, World Bank, and EU estimating costs at around USD 70 billion , far exceeding current pledges. Despite the October 10, 2025 ceasefire , Israeli airstrikes continue, and recent attacks killed at least a dozen civilians. The ceasefire calls for an international stabilization force to secure the region and disarm Hamas , but aside from Indonesia, few countries have committed troops, and many US allies remain cautious, wary of undermining the UN Security Council

The board of peace is expected to include more than 20 nations, with participants from the Middle East including Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar , alongside other emerging partners. European allies have largely declined to join, raising concerns over transparency and governance, while some analysts view the board as a potential rival to established UN mechanisms. Attendance at Thursday’s meeting remains uncertain, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not expected to participate despite recent talks with Trump.

Thursday’s meeting will take place at the Donald J. Trump US Institute of Peace , a building renamed by the State Department in December. The facility has been the subject of ongoing litigation after the administration seized the property and dismissed nearly all staff of the original nonprofit think tank, raising questions about the institute’s governance and independence.
