President Donald Trump has appointed Bill Pulte as the acting Director of National Intelligence , following the resignation of Tulsi Gabbard, which will take effect at the end of June.

The announcement was made on Trump’s Truth Social platform , where he described Pulte as having extensive experience managing high-value financial systems and overseeing the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) , along with chairing mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac .

Trump said Pulte has supervised institutions handling over $10 trillion in assets , calling it evidence of his ability to manage “the most sensitive matters in America,” particularly relating to financial stability and market oversight .

According to multiple reports, Pulte will retain his current roles at FHFA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while serving in the intelligence post on an acting basis , effectively holding dual responsibilities across financial regulation and national security.

The appointment is being viewed as highly unusual , as Pulte has no prior intelligence or national security experience , marking a significant departure from traditional leadership choices for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Gabbard’s resignation follows her decision to step down after her husband was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer , ending her tenure in the administration.

Observers note that the move further expands Trump’s reliance on trusted financial and political allies in key government positions, while maintaining continuity through temporary acting appointments.
