Trump addresses UNGA: Climate, Conflict, Migration, and Global Security in Focus

U.S. President Donald Trump delivered his first address to the United Nations General Assembly since beginning his second term on Tuesday, addressing leaders from more than 150 countries on issues ranging from climate policy and migration to international security and conflict resolution. His speech coincided with the UN’s 80th anniversary, a milestone highlighting the organization’s long-standing role in fostering global cooperation.

On climate change, Mr. Trump described the global focus on green energy as “politically correct” and questioned the concept of carbon footprints, calling them “a hoax.” He said the current approach to climate initiatives often prioritizes political correctness over practical results, and urged nations to balance environmental policies with economic and technological development.

Turning to international security, Mr. Trump emphasized the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking, stating that the United States would take decisive action against smugglers. He called on countries to stop the development of biological weapons and outlined plans to lead an international verification effort, including using artificial intelligence to monitor compliance.

Migration and border security were another major focus of his address. Mr. Trump spoke about the importance of nations managing their borders effectively and maintaining their customs, culture, and security, highlighting the need for countries to develop policies that protect citizens while addressing humanitarian considerations.

On the topic of global conflicts, the U.S. President claimed to have intervened in seven longstanding wars, including conflicts between Cambodia–Thailand, the Congo–Rwanda, India–Pakistan, Israel–Iraq, Egypt–Ethiopia, and Armenia–Azerbaijan. He described these interventions as efforts to save lives and stabilize regions, noting that he believed these actions had not received recognition from the international community.

Mr. Trump also addressed the threat posed by nuclear weapons, describing them as one of the greatest dangers to humanity. He stressed that Iran should never be allowed to acquire nuclear capabilities and called for efforts to negotiate ceasefires and reduce tensions in ongoing conflicts, including between Israel and Gaza.

Throughout his speech, Mr. Trump framed his policies as part of a broader goal to strengthen national security, promote peace, and support economic stability. He highlighted the United States’ achievements in enforcing stricter border controls, attracting investment, and maintaining a strong economy while emphasizing America’s leadership role in global affairs.

The address came at a time when global leaders are navigating multiple crises, including wars in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan, rapid technological changes, and environmental challenges, making the UNGA a critical forum for discussion and cooperation.
