Trisha as Jayalalithaa? The MGR Biopic Casting Buzz Everyone Is Talking About!

Actor Trisha Krishnan is reportedly being considered to portray former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in an upcoming biographical film on legendary actor and politician MG Ramachandran (MGR). Titled ‘ Puratchi Thalaivar MGR ’, the film is expected to explore MGR’s journey from the world of cinema to becoming one of Tamil Nadu’s most influential political leaders.

Actor JM Bashir, who will portray MGR in the film, has indicated that discussions are underway with Trisha for the role. Speaking to the media, Bashir reportedly expressed confidence in her suitability, given Jayalalithaa’s significant place in MGR’s personal and political journey. However, Trisha is yet to officially confirm her involvement in the project.

Interestingly, Trisha had expressed her interest in playing Jayalalithaa in a biopic back in 2017. During a social media interaction with fans, she was asked which personality she would like to portray from a list that included Jayalalithaa, Kalpana Chawla and Marilyn Monroe. The actress chose Jayalalithaa, making the latest casting buzz particularly interesting.

The upcoming biopic will trace different phases of MGR’s life, including his early years, acting career and entry into politics. It is also expected to feature prominent political figures such as CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, with the makers currently working on casting important roles.

Filming is expected to begin soon at Ramapuram in Chennai. The director and music composer are yet to be announced.

MGR served as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister from 1977 until his death in 1987, while Jayalalithaa later took over the leadership of the AIADMK and went on to become one of the state’s most powerful political figures. If Trisha’s casting is finalised, her portrayal could bring one of Tamil cinema and politics’ most significant personalities to the big screen.
