Tripura unveils Cyber Security Policy 2025, Focus on Data Protection, Digital Resilience

The Tripura government on Tuesday launched its Cyber Security Policy 2025, aimed at safeguarding the state’s digital infrastructure, protecting citizen data, and ensuring a secure cyberspace for governance and businesses. The policy will serve as a framework to strengthen institutional mechanisms, promote awareness, and build capacity to tackle rising cyber threats.

The policy was unveiled by S. Krishnan, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, at Pragnya Bhavan in Agartala. “The most important aspect of the Tripura Cyber Security Policy is to protect the citizens of Tripura from potential cyberattacks, ensuring that their data stays safe. It’s a significant step toward digital safety,” Krishnan said.

Before the implementation of dedicated cybersecurity policies, most states including Tripura relied mainly on central guidelines and cyber police units to respond to online crimes, often with limited preventive measures. Such policies now enable states to take a more proactive role in cyber governance.

For comparison, Telangana’s Cyber Security Policy (2016) stands out as one of the earliest comprehensive state-level frameworks, focusing on legal enforcement, awareness creation, and collaboration between public and private sectors. Tripura’s new policy reflects a similar commitment to strengthening digital resilience through training, partnerships, and secure data practices.

The launch also coincided with a national workshop titled “Cyber Bharat Setu: Bridging States, Securing Bharat” , aimed at boosting cyber readiness and response capabilities through expert-led training and simulated exercises.
