
Triple Murder in Jamshedpur: Man Kills Wife, Pregnant Daughter, Son with Axe
A shocking case of alleged family mass killing has emerged from Jamshedpur, where a retired steel company employee is accused of hacking his wife, son, and pregnant daughter to death with an axe following a long-standing family dispute , police said on Monday.
According to officials, the incident took place at Agrico locality under Sidgora police station limits . The accused, Ravindra Prasad Singh , had retired from a steel company earlier this year and was reportedly involved in prolonged domestic tensions .
On Monday morning, the dispute allegedly escalated suddenly and turned violent . Senior Superintendent of Police (East Singhbhum) Piyush Pandey said Singh attacked his wife Sarita Singh (55) , daughter Supriya Singh (31) , who was pregnant , and son Ravishek Kumar (30) using an axe and a hammer . The attack took place inside their company quarters , while the wife was reportedly preparing food .
All three victims died on the spot . Police recovered the bodies from a room filled with blood and seized the alleged weapons of offence from the scene. The accused did not flee the spot and remained present when police arrived. Additional Superintendent of Police Rishav Trivedi said Singh appeared disoriented and uncooperative , and investigators are examining whether he was suffering from a mental health condition , though no formal medical conclusion has been reached.
Cases of this nature are legally treated as murder under Section 101 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which provides for punishment ranging from life imprisonment to the death penalty depending on judicial assessment in the “rarest of rare” cases.
If proven, mental illness could be considered under Section 22 of the BNS , which provides limited exemption if the accused, due to unsoundness of mind, was incapable of understanding the nature or consequences of the act, subject to strict psychiatric evaluation.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination at MGM Hospital , and police are conducting a detailed investigation into motive, mental state, and sequence of events.
