Trainer Aircraft Crash Lands In Baramati After Mid-Air Technical Snag, Pilot Safe
A routine training session turned tense on Wednesday morning after a trainer aircraft operated by a private aviation academy was forced to make an emergency crash landing near Baramati in Maharashtra’s Pune district following a technical malfunction mid-flight.
Fortunately, disaster was avoided as the trainee pilot, who was the only person onboard, escaped safely without suffering any major injuries. The incident occurred near Gojubavi village , close to the Baramati airstrip area , triggering panic among locals and prompting an immediate police response.
According to officials, the aircraft belonged to the Redbird Flight Training Academy , a private pilot training institution operating in the region. The emergency unfolded around 8:50 am , when the aircraft reportedly began facing technical trouble while flying at a relatively low altitude.
Pune Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill said preliminary information gathered from eyewitnesses indicates that the pilot attempted to control the aircraft and carry out an emergency landing after the malfunction developed mid-air.
During the descent, one side of the aircraft allegedly struck a light pole before the plane hit the ground. Despite the impact, the pilot managed to escape safely, preventing what could have turned into a far more serious accident.
Visuals from the site showed the damaged aircraft lying in an open area near the airstrip, while local residents gathered around as emergency teams rushed to the location. Police personnel secured the area soon after receiving information about the crash landing.
Officials said an inquiry has been initiated to determine the exact reason behind the technical snag and assess whether mechanical failure, maintenance issues, or operational factors contributed to the incident.
The accident has once again raised concerns over the safety record of training aircraft operations in the district. Aircraft linked to the same training company have reportedly been involved in previous accidents in the Pune region, bringing renewed attention to flight safety standards and maintenance protocols followed by private aviation academies.
Authorities said further investigation is underway, and a detailed technical examination of the aircraft will be carried out in the coming days.
