Recent bus accidents in the Telugu states have raised serious safety concerns. In a tragic incident yesterday, a private travel bus met with a serious accident in Tirupati, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to more than ten others.

The bus, operated by Haritha Travels, was traveling from Kadapa to Bengaluru when it lost control near Manchinella Kote, in the jurisdiction of Rayalpad Police Station, at the Andhra Pradesh-Karnataka border. Reports suggest the vehicle hit a road divider, causing it to overturn. The accident occurred early Tuesday morning, around 3 a.m.

Police rushed to the scene and assisted the injured, who were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Several of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. The deceased has been identified as Anita from Proddatur. The injured include passengers from Kadapa, Rayachoti, and Bengaluru. Rayalpad police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.

Responding to the accident, Transport Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and instructed doctors to ensure the best possible care for the injured. He warned that negligence and overspeeding by private bus operators putting passengers’ lives at risk would not be tolerated. Authorities have been asked to obtain complete details of Haritha Travels’ operations, and the minister emphasized that strict action would follow if safety regulations were found to be ignored.
