Tragedy in Ranchi: Car plunges into Dhurwa dam, three dead, one missing
Three people, including two bodyguards of the Principal District Judge of Jamshedpur, drowned after their car fell into the Hatia dam officially known as Dhurwa dam in Ranchi late on Friday night. One person remains missing as rescue teams continue search operations, police said on Saturday.
The accident took place under the Nagri police station limits when the car, travelling from Jamshedpur, reportedly lost control, overturned, and plunged into the deep waters of the dam.
Hatia Deputy Superintendent of Police Pramod Mishra said that four people were inside the vehicle. He confirmed that the bodies of the driver and two police personnel had been recovered, while one occupant remained untraced. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control moments before the vehicle veered off the road and toppled into the water body.
Dhurwa police station in-charge Bimal Kindo, who oversaw the night-long rescue operation, said that two bodies were found inside the submerged car, while another was discovered floating near the spot.
The deceased bodyguards have been identified as Robin Kujur, 35, and Upendra Kumar Singh, 34, both serving as constables in the Jharkhand Police and assigned to the Principal District Judge. The driver has been identified as Satyendra Kumar Singh, 45. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
Rescue teams resumed search efforts on Saturday morning to locate the fourth person, whose identity has not yet been officially confirmed. Police are examining whether road conditions or a mechanical fault contributed to the crash, though preliminary findings indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle.
