Tragedy in Haryana: Four women killed in ‘gulal’ factory blaze

In a horrifying incident on Saturday, four women lost their lives and at least 11 others were injured when a fire broke out at a 'gulal' (powdered colour) manufacturing unit in Haryana’s Jind district . The factory, situated in the residential Bhaat Colony area of Safidon , became a scene of chaos as smoke and flames spread rapidly.

According to police, the fire erupted at the entry point of the factory , trapping several workers inside. In a desperate bid to escape, some workers reportedly jumped from the roof , sustaining injuries. Local residents, along with fire and police personnel , rushed to the scene, breaking through the factory boundary to pull out trapped employees. Multiple fire brigades battled the blaze, while ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals.

Jind Superintendent of Police Kuldeep Singh confirmed the deaths of the four women, three of whom were around 50 years old , and one aged 36 . He added that the 10–11 injured are currently undergoing treatment, and investigations into the fire’s cause are underway.

The incident has left the community shaken, highlighting the risks faced by workers in small-scale manufacturing units located in densely populated residential areas. Authorities have appealed for cooperation in the ongoing investigation and urged factories handling combustible materials to follow strict safety protocols .

As rescue and relief efforts continue, questions about workplace safety and emergency preparedness have once again come into focus.
