Tension gripped the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Monday evening after a gas leak in the Thermal Power Plant division left four workers unconscious, triggering panic within the facility.

The incident took place around 4 p.m. while the employees were carrying out their routine duties. According to officials, the workers were suddenly exposed to toxic fumes before they could move to safety, causing severe discomfort and collapse at the site.

Plant authorities acted swiftly to contain the situation and prevent a larger mishap. The affected workers were immediately given first aid inside the plant premises and later shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. After being kept under medical observation for several hours, all four workers recovered and were discharged the same night.

Officials suspect the leaked substance to be blast furnace gas , which contains high levels of carbon monoxide , a highly dangerous gas that can prove fatal when inhaled in large quantities.

Speaking on the incident, Deputy General Manager J. Mallikarjun said a high-level inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact technical failure behind the leak. He added that the situation is now under control and a comprehensive safety audit is being conducted across the plant.
