
Town Club Beat Mohun Bagan To Win Bengal’s Premier Cricket Title
In a thrilling finish to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) First Division Championship , Town Club produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat favourites Mohun Bagan on first innings lead and lift the coveted title in Kolkata on Saturday.
The CAB, Bengal’s governing body for cricket, conducts the prestigious First Division Championship, one of the state’s premier domestic club tournaments. Town Club rose to the occasion in the title clash with a disciplined performance in both batting and bowling.
The star of the contest was pacer Deepansh Chauhan , whose brilliant five-wicket haul turned the game firmly in Town Club’s favour.
After posting a formidable 403 in the first innings, Town Club kept Mohun Bagan under constant pressure with the ball. Despite a fighting knock of 75 from Vivek Singh, Mohun Bagan were bowled out for 353 , conceding a crucial first innings deficit.
Chauhan led the attack superbly and finished with outstanding figures of 5 for 72 , dismantling the opposition batting lineup at key moments.
Holding the advantage heading into the final day, Town Club batted confidently in their second innings and declared at 262 for 5 . Ankur Paul anchored the innings with a magnificent 135 , while Aishik Patel added a fluent 89 to strengthen Town Club’s grip on the match.
Mohun Bagan spinner Aamir Gani claimed four wickets and tried to keep his side in contention, but Town Club’s dominance proved too strong.
With the match ending on first innings lead, Town Club were officially declared champions, capping off a memorable campaign with a composed and clinical display. The victory marked a significant achievement for the club and underlined their consistency and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.
