Tottenham report racist abuse of Kevin Danso to police after Brighton draw in Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur have reported racist abuse directed at defender Kevin Danso to the police following their 2 - 2 draw against Brighton in the Premier League.
The issue began after Kevin Danso was targeted online with racist messages following the match, where he was involved in a late defensive error that led to Brighton’s stoppage time equaliser. The abuse on social media escalated after the game and prompted the club to involve the police.
The club strongly condemned the incident, describing the messages sent to Danso as “vile and dehumanising racism” , and confirmed that formal action has been initiated against those responsible.
Danso , the Austria international centre back, came under scrutiny after the mistake contributed to Brighton’s late goal, a result that left Tottenham frustrated in a key league fixture.
Spurs said the abuse began immediately after the match and continued online, despite the game being played during the Premier League’s No Room For Racism campaign weekend .
The club stressed that such behaviour is not only unacceptable but also a criminal offence , adding that it will pursue the strongest possible action against every individual identified.
Tottenham also offered full support to their player, stating that Danso has the complete backing of the club both as a footballer and as a person.
“No one at this club will ever stand alone in the face of this,” the statement said, underlining the club’s zero tolerance stance .
The Premier League also issued support for Danso , warning that anyone found guilty of discriminatory abuse could face strict consequences , including club bans and possible legal action.
The incident once again highlights the ongoing issue of online racism in football , even as campaigns continue across the sport to promote equality and respect.
