Actor Tom Holland has revealed an amusing behind-the-scenes incident from the set of Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic, The Odyssey, where he briefly feared the acclaimed filmmaker was unhappy with his performance.

Holland recalled that on his first day of shooting an emotional scene with Jon Bernthal, filming was repeatedly interrupted after only a few minutes. Unfamiliar with the technical limitations of IMAX cameras, the actor began to worry that Nolan was dissatisfied with what he was seeing on screen.

The confusion stemmed from the fact that the film is being shot entirely on IMAX 65mm film , with each camera magazine capable of holding only about three minutes of footage before needing to be replaced. As Nolan repeatedly called for cuts, Holland assumed the interruptions were related to his acting. His concerns were eventually eased when stunt coordinator George Cottle explained that there were simply " three minutes in the mag ," referring to the camera's film magazine capacity.

The actor later admitted he had genuinely believed he was performing poorly before learning the real reason for the pauses. Despite the initial panic, Holland described working with Nolan as one of the most rewarding experiences of his career.

Produced on a reported $250 million budget , The Odyssey is being billed as the first commercial feature film shot entirely using IMAX cameras . Nolan reportedly utilised more than two million feet of IMAX film stock during production, underscoring the ambitious scale of the project.

The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus , while Holland portrays Telemachus , the legendary hero's son. The ensemble cast also includes Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Charlize Theron and Anne Hathaway.

Adding to the production's memorable moments, cast members recalled a "preposterous" rainbow resembling something from My Little Pony unexpectedly appearing and halting a key scene. Nolan, meanwhile, reportedly maintained his trademark secrecy by sidestepping questions about how some of the film's spectacular visual sequences were achieved.

After filming across multiple international locations, The Odyssey is set for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026 , with anticipation continuing to build around one of the most ambitious cinematic projects in recent years.
