Tollywood’s National Triumph: Telugu Films Win 9 Awards At 72nd National Film Awards

Telugu cinema emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 72nd National Film Awards , securing nine prestigious honours across major categories. From Nag Ashwin’s futuristic spectacle Kalki 2898 AD to Sukumar’s blockbuster Pushpa 2: The Rule , Tollywood received national recognition for its storytelling, performances, craftsmanship, and creative excellence.

The biggest highlight came with Kalki 2898 AD , which won the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award. The science fiction epic also earned the Best Production Design honour for Nitin Zihani Choudhary, recognising the film’s massive futuristic universe and detailed visual architecture. Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and directed by Nag Ashwin, the film became one of Telugu cinema’s landmark global projects.

Sukumar’s Pushpa 2: The Rule added two more major victories to Telugu cinema’s tally. Sukumar won the Best Original Screenplay award, while Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma shared the Best Costume Design honour for creating the iconic looks of the blockbuster. The achievement further strengthened the franchise’s national impact after the success of its first instalment.

Niharika Konidela backed Committee Kurrollu earned the Best Telugu Film award, with P. Ravikumar winning Best Makeup Artist for his work on the project. The film’s victory highlighted the growing appreciation for content driven Telugu films beyond mainstream commercial cinema.

The critically appreciated 35 Chinna Katha Kaadu also delivered a double celebration by winning the Best Children’s Film award, while young actor Arundev Pothula received the Best Child Artist honour for his performance. Presented by Rana Daggubati, the film was praised for its emotional storytelling and child centric narrative.

Meanwhile, Lucky Baskhar , starring Dulquer Salmaan, brought another achievement for Telugu cinema as director Venky Atluri won the Best Dialogue Writer award for his sharp and engaging writing.

The historic performance triggered celebrations across the Telugu film industry, with stars including Jr NTR, Allu Arjun and Chiranjeevi congratulating the winners and praising the recognition received by Indian cinema.
