TN Minister Inaugurates IKEA’s E-Commerce launch in Tamil Nadu
Swedish home decor and furniture retailer IKEA has launched its online sales operations in Tamil Nadu , marking its entry into the state through e-commerce as part of its expansion strategy in South India, Industries Minister TRB Rajaa said.
The e-commerce service, which will go live from January 22, 2026 , will be available through IKEA’s official website and mobile app , enabling customers across Tamil Nadu to browse and purchase products directly. IKEA already operates online sales in several Indian markets, including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Delhi-NCR , and the Tamil Nadu rollout represents a state-wise expansion of its digital footprint.
The online launch event, held on January 19 , was attended by IKEA India CEO Patrik Antoni and Sweden’s Honorary Consul General Arun Vasu , underscoring collaboration between the Tamil Nadu government, corporate leadership and international partners. Speaking at the event, Rajaa said the e-commerce launch is a precursor to the opening of a full-scale IKEA retail store in Tamil Nadu , which is expected soon.
Rajaa highlighted the long-standing association between IKEA and Tamil Nadu, noting that the state has been the company’s oldest supplier base in India for over four decades, particularly for textiles and other home furnishing components . “Local suppliers already operate at global manufacturing, social and environmental standards. Thousands of jobs are supported through this ecosystem, and more employment is expected as IKEA expands its footprint in India,” he said.
The Minister also urged IKEA to consider localising its complete supply chain in Tamil Nadu , citing the state’s strong manufacturing and logistics ecosystem as ideal for achieving global quality standards.
Patrik Antoni reiterated IKEA’s long-term commitment to India and said the online expansion would help the company reach customers in new markets and shape future store formats, including the upcoming physical store in Chennai. Arun Vasu highlighted the growing business and diplomatic ties between Sweden and Tamil Nadu.
The e-commerce launch covers key cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Salem , with deliveries expected within three to seven days . Customers can choose from over 6,400 home furnishing products , including furniture, storage solutions, mattresses and home accessories, with optional assembly services. Payments are accepted via credit and debit cards, UPI and IKEA Gift Cards , and the company offers a 365-day return policy on most products.
The expansion is expected to improve online access for consumers, strengthen local supplier networks and generate employment across retail, logistics and supply-chain operations, further reinforcing IKEA’s growth strategy in southern India.
