
TN CM Vijay Concludes Six-Day London Tour With Major Investment Deals
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay returned to Chennai on Thursday after completing a six-day official visit to London, where his delegation focused on attracting investments and building international partnerships to strengthen the state’s industrial and technology sectors.
Vijay travelled to the UK on September 10 as part of an investment outreach programme. The visit resulted in investment proposals and commitments worth Rs 15,300 crore, according to the state government, with the projects expected to create more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
A major agreement involved Rs 11,000 crore from Samvardhana Motherson International and its UK and European joint ventures for projects spanning design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly and logistics. The investment is expected to generate around 7,000 jobs. The delegation also secured a Rs 1,000-crore commitment from Ernst & Young for a Global Capability Centre, expected to create over 2,000 jobs. Sweden-based Sigma Technology Group agreed to expand its GCC operations in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli, with around 600 jobs projected.
UK-based Wilson Power Solutions signed a Rs 300-crore agreement to expand transformer manufacturing in Tiruvallur, potentially creating about 400 jobs. A European auto-component company submitted a letter of intent for a proposed Rs 3,000-crore greenfield investment in Tamil Nadu.
Vijay met Indian High Commissioner to the UK Kumaran Periasamy, with discussions centred on trade and investment opportunities under the UK-India Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. He also met Dheeraj Hinduja, Prakash P Chhabria and Rita Hinduja-Chhabria to discuss an earlier Rs 2,500-crore investment commitment, renewable-energy projects and increasing exports of commercial vehicles manufactured in Tamil Nadu.
As part of Tamil Nadu’s proposed Motor Sports City, Vijay visited Silverstone Motor Racing Circuit to study its facilities and safety systems and later flagged off the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup race featuring actor and racing driver Ajith Kumar.
Guidance Tamil Nadu officials separately held meetings with 10 organisations across aerospace, defence, chemicals, logistics, finance and other sectors, resulting in proposed business visits and collaborations.
