TN CM Stalin inaugurates projects, distributes welfare aid worth ₹4,268 cr

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday inaugurated multiple development projects worth ₹737.88 crore in Ramanathapuram district and distributed government welfare assistance totaling ₹4,268 crore to 50,752 beneficiaries. The event, held in the Peravoor area near Ramanathapuram, brought together several ministers, MPs, and MLAs to witness the launch of key infrastructure projects and the release of financial aid to thousands of families.

One of the major highlights of the event was the inauguration of the new bus stand in Ramanathapuram, covering 16,909 square feet. The construction of the bus stand, which began in 2023 at a cost of ₹20 crore, is expected to improve commuter convenience and connectivity in the district. Alongside this, the Chief Minister inaugurated various other completed development projects and laid the foundation stones for several new initiatives aimed at enhancing public services and infrastructure in the region.

Earlier in the week, CM Stalin visited the upgraded Tholkappia Poonga (Eco Park) in Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai, a project undertaken by the Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust (CRRT) under the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply. The revitalisation project, sanctioned for ₹42.45 crore, introduced several modern amenities, including a new entrance gateway, watchtower, visitor gallery, children’s play area, walkways, a connecting bridge, food court, restrooms, open-air theatre, and CCTV surveillance. During the visit, the Chief Minister planted a Kondrai sapling and instructed officials to open the upgraded park to the public at the earliest.

The Tholkappia Poonga, originally inaugurated in 2011 by the late M. Karunanidhi following the restoration of the 58-acre Adyar Creek, had faced maintenance issues over the years. The current redevelopment ensures that the park not only regains its former glory but also meets modern standards for environmental conservation and public recreation.

Through these initiatives, the Tamil Nadu government continues or is trying to emphasize infrastructure development, public welfare, and environmental restoration, demonstrating a commitment to improving the quality of life for both urban and rural communities. By combining financial support for citizens with tangible improvements in public amenities, the government aims to foster holistic development across the state.
