Tirupati MP Seeks Cap on Skyrocketing Hyderabad Flight Ticket Prices
Tirupati Member of Parliament M. Gurumoorthy has raised serious concern over the sharp rise in airfares on the Hyderabad–Tirupati route, urging the Centre to take immediate action . In a letter to Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, he called for steps to curb excessive pricing by airlines.
The MP highlighted that ticket prices to Tirupati are unusually high compared to longer routes connecting major cities. While fares from Hyderabad to cities like Delhi , Mumbai , Bengaluru and Chennai typically range between ₹2,500 and ₹7,000 , tickets to Tirupati cost between ₹6,600 and ₹9,500 , rising to ₹14,500 during peak demand .
He attributed the price surge to growing passenger numbers and reduced capacity . Nearly 11.8 lakh travellers used this route between April 2025 and March 2026 , with 88,405 recorded in March alone. Despite around 17 daily flights, the shift from larger aircraft to smaller ones has created an artificial shortage , pushing fares higher.
Gurumoorthy said the rising prices go against the objectives of the Centre’s UDAN Scheme, which aims to make air travel affordable . He noted that many travellers to Tirupati are pilgrims, including the elderly and middle-class families, who are struggling to bear the rising costs.
He urged the ministry to regulate fares, especially during busy periods, and ensure deployment of larger aircraft to balance demand and stabilise ticket prices.
