Tirumala Welcomes Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo

Tirumala witnessed a historic moment as former Indonesian President Joko Widodo undertook a pilgrimage of international significance. Serving as Indonesia’s 7th President , Widodo visited Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala on Thursday, January 29, 2026 .

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) officials extended a grand welcome to Widodo and escorted him for darshan of the deity. “The 7 th President of Indonesia, Widodo, had the honor of worshipping Lord Venkateswara . TTD authorities welcomed him and facilitated his darshan,” a TTD official said. During the visit, Widodo offered flowers and prayers at the shrine.

Following the darshan, at the Ranganayaka Mandapam , TTD officials presented him with silken robes, prasadam , and a portrait of Lord Venkateswara as a token of honor. Tirupati’s Sri Venkateswara Temple , renowned as one of the wealthiest Hindu temples globally, is maintained and protected under the official guardianship of TTD.

Although Indonesia has the world’s largest Muslim population, Widodo’s visit underscores the respect and admiration for Hindu culture beyond borders, setting a remarkable example of interfaith harmony.
