Tiger Woods Pleads Guilty To Reckless Driving In DUI Case Linked To Florida Crash

Tiger Woods pleaded guilty Wednesday to willful, wanton and reckless driving and to refusing a urine test, resolving the Florida DUI case stemming from a rollover crash earlier this year, according to Martin County court records.

The 50-year-old golf legend was arrested in March after his Land Rover struck a truck and rolled onto its side on a residential road on Jupiter Island. He had initially pleaded not guilty to DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

Under the plea deal, Woods moved away from the original DUI charge. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and will have his driver's license suspended for five years.

According to an incident report, Woods was travelling at high speed on the beachside road, where the speed limit was 30 mph. The collision caused about $5,000 in damage to the truck. He escaped the overturned vehicle without injuries and told a deputy he had been looking down at his phone and changing the radio station when the crash occurred.

A Breathalyzer test showed no signs of alcohol, but Woods declined a urine sample. Deputies reported finding two pain pills, later identified as hydrocodone, in his pocket, and said he displayed signs of impairment.

The case also brought scrutiny to Woods' medical history. Court records show he travelled abroad for treatment at an inpatient facility. In July, Judge Darren Steele approved an agreement letting prosecutors review medical records tied to the crash. A similar order in May granted access to prescription records from a Palm Beach pharmacy covering January through March.

Wednesday's hearing, originally set for Sept. 8, was moved up and held at the Martin County Courthouse in Stuart. His attorney, Douglas Duncan, has not offered further comment.

The crash was Woods' fourth since 2009. He survived a devastating 2021 crash in Los Angeles that left his right leg severely injured, with amputation reportedly considered. In 2009, his SUV struck a fire hydrant and tree outside his Florida home, and in 2017 he was arrested on DUI charges after being found asleep behind the wheel.

Woods became the first Black golfer to win the Masters, in 1997. He has not returned to tournament play since the latest crash, and the license suspension raises questions about his ability to travel for future events.
