Tiger attack sparks panic in Mysuru district, shepherd killed

A fresh incident of tiger attack has once again sparked fear among residents of Mysuru district. On Sunday afternoon, a shepherd was mauled to death near Mulluru village in Saraguru taluk.

According to forest officials, the victim, identified as Rajasekhar Murthy (58), was herding his goats when the tiger suddenly attacked him. Authorities suspect the animal could be a “man-eating tiger” that has been preying on humans in the region.

This marks the second tiger-related fatality in the district within a month. Earlier, a resident of Badagalapura village in the same district, also the home district of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was killed in a similar attack.

Local residents expressed anger over the forest department’s alleged failure to contain the threat, accusing officials of negligence in capturing the tiger despite repeated incidents. “There are hardly any dense forests here, yet tigers roam freely,” one villager lamented.

Meanwhile, Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre extended condolences to the bereaved family and directed officials to take immediate steps to capture the tiger. He also instructed them to provide adequate financial compensation to the victim’s family.

Forest teams have launched intensive search operations to trace and trap the animal, though efforts have so far been unsuccessful.
