Thyagarajan, Siraj Lead Hyderabad to Dominant Innings Victory Over Tripura
Hyderabad began their Ranji Trophy 2026-27 campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating Tripura by an innings and 40 runs in their Elite Group B encounter at Gymkhana Ground on Tuesday. The victory earned Hyderabad seven points, including a bonus point.
Left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan spearheaded the bowling attack with a six-wicket haul in the second innings, finishing with nine wickets in the match. India pacer and Hyderabad captain Mohammad Siraj contributed two wickets for 19 runs as Tripura were dismissed for 120 in 41.2 overs.
Resuming at 99 for seven overnight, Tripura failed to overcome their 160-run first-innings deficit. Thyagarajan dismissed Sentu Sarkar, who scored 27, early in the morning session before removing Parvez Sultan and Sandip Sarkar to complete the innings. Sridam Paul top-scored in the second innings with 25, but Tripura’s resistance proved insufficient.
Earlier, Tripura were bowled out for 134 in their first innings, with Hyderabad debutant G Aniketh Reddy claiming five wickets for 21 runs. Bikramkumar Das scored 50, while Hrituraj Roy contributed 33.
Hyderabad responded with 294 runs, establishing a crucial 160-run lead. Debutant Ruthik Mende top-scored with 61, while Tanmay Agarwal made 54. Rahul Radesh and Chama Milind added valuable contributions of 40 runs each. Tripura’s Sandip Sarkar claimed eight wickets for 96 runs.
The result gives Hyderabad a strong start to the season under Siraj’s leadership. Hyderabad will face Andhra in their next fixture from October 18, while Tripura are scheduled to take on Assam.
