Thrillophilia has released the India Multi-Day Travel Index 2025–26 , a data-based report analysing how Indian leisure travel has evolved over the past three years across domestic and international markets. Unlike conventional tourism studies that rely on search trends or arrival data, the index is built on executed multi-day itineraries , capturing how trips were planned, operated and completed on the ground.

The findings point to a notable shift in travel behaviour in 2025, with Indian travellers increasingly opting for longer-duration trips featuring fewer destinations. The report indicates that customised itineraries overtook fixed group tours , as travellers sought flexible routing and personalised pacing. Families emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments, influencing trip design toward predictable schedules, reduced transitions and extended stays.

Within India, demand expanded beyond traditional circuits. Regions such as the Northeast, Ladakh and Kashmir recorded rising interest, alongside experiential travel in Goa. States including Rajasthan and Kerala continued to witness strong multi-day demand due to heritage tourism, festivals and established infrastructure. The report notes that repeat travel gained traction across mature domestic destinations.

Internationally, travel to Europe reflected a format change. While Switzerland, Italy and France remained popular, the index observed a decline in high-coverage, multi-country itineraries and a rise in two- to three-country journeys with longer city stays and scenic rail components. Similar trends were reported in Japan and parts of Southeast Asia. Short-haul destinations accounted for higher volumes, while long-haul travel was associated with higher per-trip expenditure.

Segment-wise, families prioritised comfort and hotel quality; honeymooners and couples preferred privacy and slower pacing; luxury travellers focused on regional immersion and operational reliability; and Gen Z travellers showed higher trip frequency and greater openness to emerging destinations.

The report is based on aggregated booking and fulfillment data compiled by Thrillophilia across domestic and overseas markets. However, it does not disclose specific percentage growth figures or sample sizes. The company states that the index is intended as a reference framework for destinations and industry stakeholders seeking to understand evolving Indian travel patterns beyond headline tourism numbers.
