A disturbing incident in East Chodavaram village, Nallajerla Mandal, West Godavari district, has drawn widespread attention across the state. During celebrations of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s birthday, some local YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) workers reportedly carried out a public animal sacrifice in front of a banner honoring the leader.

According to police, the incident occurred on Friday night during the Gangamma Jatara festival organized to mark the birthday. Some individuals, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, slaughtered a goat in front of the Jagan banner while chanting slogans. Though the event went unnoticed initially, videos of the act circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage.

Police acted promptly after noticing the viral videos. Following instructions from senior officials, the three individuals responsible - Ramesh Kattula, Naveen Putta, and Sai Kondabattula - were identified and arrested. They have been charged with promoting violence in public spaces and violating laws prohibiting animal sacrifice.

The arrested men were paraded on the main village road as part of the police action, sending a warning that no one will be spared for breaking the law in the name of political celebrations. Authorities have also set up police pickets in the village to prevent further incidents and maintain public order.

The Nallajerla Police Station Inspector emphasized that while admiration for political leaders is acceptable, it cannot justify illegal acts. “Public animal sacrifices and actions that disturb peace are serious offenses, and strict legal action will be taken against those responsible,” he said. Local residents have expressed shock and dismay at the violent act carried out in the name of a birthday celebration.
