Three Arrested After Man Kidnapped, Beaten and Urinated Upon in Bhopal

Police have registered a case against seven persons and arrested Three arrested in connection with the kidnapping , assaulted , and publicly humiliated of a 22-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh’s capital, officials said on Thursday. A manhunt is underway to trace the remaining four accused.

The incident took place during the intervening night of April 26 and 27 within the Hanumanganj police station limits , where the victim, Jaswant Markam, a resident of Kamla Nagar, was allegedly taken away on the pretext of a conversation while he was at a local bus stand with a friend.

According to police, the accused first questioned him about a neighbour and friend before assaulting him when he refused to provide information. He was then taken to a forested area in Karond, where he was stripped and beaten severely. As he began losing consciousness, one of the accused committed the act of urinating on face , which was also recorded.

Police said the accused further circulated a viral video of the assault on social media with the intent to humiliate the victim and spread fear. The victim was later informed to his friend by the accused group around 5 am and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) , and three accused, including Prem Thapa, have been arrested. Special teams have been formed to locate the remaining suspects.

Investigators are also examining the viral clip and its circulation. Officials added that if the victim is found to belong to a tribal community, additional legal provisions may be invoked as per the circumstances.

Hanumanganj police station in-charge Awdhesh Bhadoria said all angles are being investigated and arrests of the remaining accused are expected soon. This incident comes in the backdrop of a similar 2023 case in Sidhi district, where a tribal youth was assaulted, sparking widespread outrage.
