Three AIADMK MLAs Resign, Likely to Join TVK, Five Return to Palaniswami Camp
Three AIADMK MLAs resigned from the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Monday and are likely to join the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), while five others from the same rebel camp returned to party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami , marking a fresh reshuffle in the opposition party’s legislative strength.
The three legislators who resigned are Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthakam) , P Sathyabama (Dharapuram) , and S Jayakumar (Perundurai). They met Speaker J C D Prabhakar at the Secretariat in Chennai and formally submitted their resignations. Shortly after, they called on TVK leader and minister Aadhav Arjuna , indicating their likely move to C Joseph Vijay-led TVK .
The MLAs were earlier part of a rebel AIADMK faction led by senior leaders C Ve Shanmugam and S P Velumani . They had also voted in support of the TVK government during the May 13 floor test , defying party directives along with several others.
In a parallel development, five MLAs from the Shanmugam-Velumani camp shifted back to AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami , strengthening his position in the Assembly. Among them was SM Sukumar (Arcot) , with others also returning to the party fold after weeks of internal factional churn.
With these developments, the Palaniswami-led camp now has 27 MLAs , while the rebel faction has been reduced to 17 MLAs , underscoring continuing instability within the AIADMK’s legislative ranks and the shifting political equations in Tamil Nadu.
