Thomas & Uber Cup 2026: Sindhu, Lakshya Sen Lead India Challenge in Denmark

India will be led by Olympic medallist PV Sindhu , Lakshya Sen , and the star doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy–Chirag Shetty at the Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 , which begins in Horsens, Denmark on Friday. The Indian contingent features a mix of experienced campaigners and promising youngsters as they look to make a strong impact at the prestigious team championships.

India,who created history by winning the Thomas Cup in 2022 , will aim to replicate their success in the men’s event, while the women’s team will look to improve on their past achievements of two bronze medals in 2014 and 2016 .

The tournament format features 16 teams divided into four groups of four , with each tie comprising three singles and two doubles matches irrespective of early results. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stage, where ties will be played in a best-of-five format , ending once a team secures three wins.

In the Thomas Cup , India have been placed in Group A alongside defending champions China, Canada and Australia . The men’s squad includes Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Kiran George and Ayush Shetty in singles, while the doubles department will be led by Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty , along with pairs such as MR Arjun–Dhruv Kapila and Hariharan Amsakarunan . Youngster Ayush Shetty , the 2025 US Open champion and 2026 Asian Championships runner-up, has earned his maiden call-up to the Thomas Cup squad. India will open their campaign against Canada .

In the Uber Cup , India are also placed in Group A with China, Denmark and Ukraine . The women’s squad is led by PV Sindhu and includes emerging talents such as Unnati Hooda, Tanvi Sharma and Devika Sihag , alongside experienced players like Isharani Baruah and Tanisha Crasto . However, India’s top women’s doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have withdrawn due to an injury to Jolly, and have been replaced by Shruti Mishra–Priya Konjengbam , who will join other doubles combinations including Kavipriya Selvam–Simran Singhi . India will begin their Uber Cup campaign against hosts Denmark .

India’s schedule (all in IST) sees the men’s team face Canada on April 24 at 12:00 PM , China on April 24 at 1:30 PM , and Australia on April 27 at 12:00 PM . The women’s team will play Denmark on April 24 at 3:30 PM , Ukraine on April 25 at 10:00 PM , and China on April 27 at 10:00 PM .

Live streaming of the Thomas & Uber Cup 2026 will be available on the JioHotstar app and website , while live telecast will be shown on the Star Sports Network in India.
