‘This Is About Self-Respect’: Kavitha Breaks Down on Last Day as BRS MLC

Telangana politics witnessed an emotional moment as Kalvakuntla Kavitha , daughter of BRS founder K. Chandrashekar Rao , addressed the Legislative Council for the last time after reiterating her resignation as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC). Overcome with emotion, Kavitha said her political struggle was about self-respect , not power or personal gain.

Speaking in the House, Kavitha alleged that she had been politically isolated and humiliated within her own party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi . She claimed that individuals close to the party leadership conspired to sideline her and that party-affiliated media carried sustained negative campaigns against her. “My fight is not over assets or positions. It is for dignity,” she said, rejecting what she described as false narratives surrounding her suspension.

In unusually sharp remarks, Kavitha termed the BRS party constitution “a joke” and accused the previous BRS government of widespread corruption. She cited alleged irregularities in public infrastructure projects, particularly district collectorate buildings that suffered damage soon after completion. These, she said, were clear signs of poor governance and misuse of public funds.

Recalling her suspension last September, Kavitha said a disciplinary committee was constituted overnight and acted without issuing her a show-cause notice. She noted that although she submitted her resignation soon after the suspension, it had not been formally accepted, prompting her to seek an opportunity to place her reasons on record before the Council.

Kavitha also criticised changes in contract and outsourcing employment policies, alleging that despite promises to end the contract system, it was expanded and that some jobs were effectively sold for large sums of money.

Looking ahead, Kavitha hinted at a new political beginning. She said both the BRS and the ruling Congress had failed to meet the aspirations of the people, and argued that Telangana now needed an independent political force. “I leave this House today as an individual,” she said, “but I will return as a force.”
