The makers of Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, have unveiled a new character poster featuring Jatayu, the legendary bird from the Hindu epic Ramayana. Veteran actor Anupam Kher has lent his voice to the character, adding to the excitement surrounding the much-awaited mythological epic.

Titled “Jatayu: The Wings of Dharma,” the poster presents the courageous bird as a symbol of righteousness, sacrifice and unwavering determination. The reveal highlights Jatayu’s willingness to stand against evil, even when faced with a powerful opponent, and has further raised expectations for the film.

In the original epic, Jatayu plays a significant role when Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducts Sita. Despite being outmatched, Jatayu bravely confronts Ravana in an attempt to rescue her. Although he is gravely injured during the battle, he later informs Lord Rama about Sita’s abduction, helping him begin his search. His story remains a powerful example of courage, loyalty and the determination to uphold dharma.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Lord Rama, while Sai Pallavi portrays Sita and Yash plays Ravana. The film also features Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshmana and Arun Govil as King Dasharath. Rakul Preet Singh and Lara Dutta are also part of the ensemble cast.

Produced by Namit Malhotra, the ambitious cinematic adaptation features music composed by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. The collaboration brings together Indian musical sensibilities and international cinematic scoring for a story rooted in one of India's most enduring epics.

The first instalment, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026. Advance bookings are set to open on October 20, coinciding with Dussehra. The film is planned as a two-part cinematic experience, with the second instalment scheduled for Diwali 2027.

With its star-studded cast, grand scale and focus on timeless themes of good versus evil, the film is among the most anticipated Indian cinematic projects for audiences at home and abroad.
